Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library.  Interlibrary loan is based on a tradition of sharing resources between various types and sizes of libraries and the belief that no library, regardless of its size or budget, is completely self-sufficient. The expenses associated with ILL are numerous. The Public Library at Tellico Village is only able to provide interlibrary loan service to its patrons because the Tennessee State Library & Archives system, including Tenn-Share and the Ocoee River Regional Library Center, absorbs the cost for all Tennessee libraries. However, ILL involves a great deal of time and resources from each participating library.

  • Only print materials may be requested through ILL.

  • If the item was published less than six months ago, or our library owns it, we’re not able to request it.

  • A good-faith effort will be made to find the requested item for you. Be advised, however, that some items may not be available. We will inform you if we are unable to fulfill your request.

  • Obtaining ILL items can take up to two weeks or more. We will inform you when your item is available for pick-up. If the item you requested is not available from any of our resources, you will be notified.

  • Overdue ILL items must be returned prior to new requests being processed.

  • ILL books may not be renewed online. If you need to keep the book longer, please contact the library at 865-458-5199 so that we can then contact the lending library to ask for more time. Please allow 5 days for this process before your due date. Some libraries do not allow renewals.

  • Charges incurred for overdue or lost items from the lending library will be placed on the patron’s account, along with any charges for overdue or lost items per our policies.

  • Damaged items will be charged the full replacement cost. An additional processing fee of $10 may be charged.

  • Please notify the library immediately if the ILL request is no longer needed /cancelled.

  • Failure to pick up a requested item may result in a $5 processing fee.
