The Story of the Declaration of Independence:
The American Revolution had already begun long before the British occupation of Boston and the resulting conflict of arms. It was a revolution in the hearts and minds of the colonist.

Mike Thornton joined the U.S. Army on his 17th birthday and later served as an officer and helicopter pilot. His first assignment was on the East German border where he trained with other NATO militaries to defend Europe. Mike retired in August 2007 after 30 years of commissioned service to our great nation.
He is excited about studying and sharing history, along with the collective lessons learned from our American experience. Mike has conducted extensive research, at home and abroad. He talks and writes frequently about the lessons of history in our evolving world.
Mike is an adjunct instructor at Roane State Community College holds a master’s degree from Jacksonville State University and a graduate certificate in US history from Ashland University.
