Let’s say that you are deathly afraid of spiders. What if you could have a conversation with your 6x paternal great grandmother and she told you that your fear of spiders was not yours, but something she passed down to you based on her own frightening experience? You could use that information to modify your usual panic at the sight of a hapless arachnid investigating your garage.
Our fear of storms and intense irrational reactions to certain things and people – even those flashes of déjà vu we all experience - may very likely have nothing to do with us, but everything to do with our ancestors. The science of epigenetics has proven that their personal and collective life experiences modify the DNA that they pass down to us.
